Vino's
Review by: Adam Putman
Go see Lovedrug, you WILL be blown away.
After a less than dazzling performance by the preceding band, the boys from Lovedrug suited up. They mounted the stage to whispers of speculation and anticipation. The lights went down, and Michael cleared his throat; signs of his impending sickness.
You wouldn’t know this foursome hadn’t been playing together more than a year. Their individual talents melded collectively into one full sound. No one told the crowd it was Lovedrug’s first performance at Vino’s either. They had obviously traveled specifically to see the band. I must admit I was compelled enough to join in myself. They sung right along word for word, sometimes even singing for Michael while he took a moment to re-gain his composure, consciously subduing his symptoms. I must say that if I hadn’t already spoken with him about his throat hurting earlier that night over a cigarette (insert ironic comment here), that I wouldn’t have had a clue that Michael was falling ill. He was masterful in replacing some of the higher registered vocals with a beautiful and eerie falsetto performance. It was an amazing feat given the complexity of his vocal arrangements.
As the set wrapped up the crowd applauded with obvious satisfaction and sadness that it was over. I feel blessed to have been there. Their performances are so much more than a 200 word limit can begin to translate. (I think I’m a little over anyway)
Go see Lovedrug, you WILL be blown away.
